Papua Nuova Guinea Tribal Coffee
This coffee grows on the slopes of the lush rainforest along the Jimi River, in a warm and humid climate with constant shade, which favours a slow and complex ripening of the cherries. It is produced by small producers who own an average of 0.70 hectares each, living in the most isolated communities of the country, in small gardens within their tribal villages, which for centuries have kept their languages and customs intact. Gathered in the Jimi River Coffee Network, they base their collective coffee production on GAP Good Agriculture Practices, and this also has social, economic and environmental reflections such as the reduction of water consumption, the appropriate use of fertilisers, animal welfare and certification organic. This single-origin is recognised as PSC A/X, Premium Smallholder Crop, i.e. sourced entirely from premium smallholder farms, and is composed of coffee beans purchased by individual landowners who clean, wash and dry their green coffees themselves. It is a full-bodied coffee, with an initial sweetness that reveals notes of acidity towards the end.
